Event: Best practices for Ruby + Kafka
We are extremely excited to invite you to this Tech MeetUp we are organising together with our partner Xempus – one of the most successful InsureTech companies in Europe!
Our speakers – Markus Fuchs, Engineering Manager and Austin Moore, Senior Software Developer, come directly from Munich and have prepared some gripping presentations. The topics we will discuss:
“Best Practices for Ruby + Kafka”
Working on a monolithic Rails app that’s still maintainable? That’s great to hear! You’re one of the lucky few. For the rest of us, we’re facing one or more of the following challenges:
- Breaking up an unwieldy monolith
- Managing the chaos of micro-services
- Getting different applications to talk to each other
At Xempus, they encountered all three problems and tackled them successfully with the help of a nifty tool named Kafka.
In this talk, Austin will quickly go over what Kafka is and how it can help solve these tricky problems. Then he’ll dive into some of the concrete best practices they’ve come up with in the years working with this complex and powerful tool.
Some of the best practices are specific to Ruby, but many can be applied to using Kafka with your language of choice. Xempus itself has applications written not only in Ruby, but also Java, Kotlin and C#.
In short, if you’re experiencing similar challenges in your applications, this talk will hopefully provide you with some concrete advice.
