The Role:
You will join an extension team (Ad Tech) of our client - News UK.

The Team:
We are The Ad Tech team, working on The Times as part of News UK Tech.
We are a dynamic team of 6+ people working across three time zones, solving crucial problems and improving TheTimes.com - one of the most visited news websites in the country. You’ll be a key component of a cross-functional team delivering quality software. You’ll interact with product owners and stakeholders, contribute to the technical conversations and ensure that what we build is best in class and fit for purpose.
You’ll report to a Principal Engineer and will help him deliver on the technical strategy and tactical implementation.
What we're looking for:
- Experience with Functional Programming in JavaScript
- Experience with TypeScript
- Experience with React
- Experience with Node.js
- Experience in testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, Enzyme, Cypress
- Experience with using Agentic LLM tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code
- The ability to mentor and coach junior members of the team
- Software engineer with a passion for writing great code
- Always thinking about the underlying software architecture and how it can be continually improved
- Advocate of Test-Driven Development and understand why it is important
- Comfortable working in an Agile environment and understand the value of Agile ceremonies
- Collaborate well with others and embrace pair programming
- Good understanding of commercial and business requirements
Brownie points:
- Experience with WordPress and/or PHP or strong willingness to learn and work with modern WordPress practices
- Experience in advertising technology or for a large publisher
- Experience in working with Webpack
- Experience with CircleCI
- Experience with AWS
- Experience creating API’s
- Ability to performance test high traffic websites
