Data Solutions Engineer

The Role & The Team:

You will join an extension team (Data) of our client - News UK.

The Data Engineering department support the business in broadening data informed decision making and experiences. You’ll work with Agile teams in London, Sofia and Bangalore that are not only responsible for the collection, ingestion, utilisation and warehousing of Data across the business, but also the enrichment of our data assets through machine learning and AI. Through our collective ambition, we provide industry leading insights tools, consumer facing AI features and products. We collect, analyse and interpret data to build dynamic and transformative partnerships with our brands. Data products e.g. insights tools, consumer facing AI features and efficiency tooling.

News UK in embarking on a new chapter of data growth. With the introduction of the company’s AI strategy and the growing need to support brands in achieving data-powered product growth, the News UK Data team needs to ensure it is structured to respond effectively.

What you'll do:

• Devoted to the design and implementation of data solutions, ensuring they are scalable, performant, and cost-effective
• Help reinforce data architecture principles, standards, and best practices across the team, including data modeling techniques, data quality, and work specification
• Contribute to the creation of tailored data solutions and APIs to feed bespoke reporting applications for specific domains, such as the newsroom and advertising sales teams
• Contribute to the design of data marts specifically optimized for consumption by BI tools (Tableau, Looker), ensuring efficient query performance and analytical flexibility
• Collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Data Platforms teams to ensure the data solutions are implemented efficiently, securely, and in alignment with best practice and data governance policies

What we're looking for:

• Strong experience delivering end-to-end data solutions using BigQuery, Dataform and Airflow
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable data pipelines
• Proven experience working closely with business analysts and potentially stakeholders to gather, clarify and validate data and requirements
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills for analytics and reporting and analytics use-cases
• Experience designing and orchestrating data workflows and dependencies
• Experience building and managing transformations and data models using Dataform or tools alike
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in complex data environments
• Ability to hold effective technical discussions with data engineers and platform teams
• Strong understanding of data quality, reliability and operational best practices
• Clear and confident communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
