As an Automation QA Engineer (Web), you’ll be an important part of a team delivering quality software. You will help define, implement and continuously improve a testing strategy, aiming to automate as much as possible.

You’ll work in an agile environment with product teams and business analysts to ensure that tickets are clearly understood and are testable.

You’ll collaborate with your peers across QA, engineering and other disciplines both in Sofia and in London to advocate a test-driven development approach and evangelise the importance of quality.

What you'll do

  • Make right judgment calls based on a sound knowledge of the testing pyramid and best practices
  • Conduct thorough reviews of test cases and automation scripts to maintain the highest quality standards
  • Apply solid understanding of testing methodologies, principles and tools in practice
  • Collaborate, engage and contribute to team-driven outcomes
  • Broaden your knowledge of testing by learning new skills, tools and approaches
  • Use your strong experience with TDD or BDD to write effective tests early in the development cycle, contribute to QA efficiency by aligning with DevOps practices, and ensure quality by integrating key metrics throughout the process

What we're looking for

  • Previous commercial experience in QA automation and tooling with focus on some of the following – APIs, microservices, UI and perhaps contract testing
  • Thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) within agile development teams
  • Interest in and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as CircleCI and can integrate tests as code
  • Experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, test GraphQL applications (including Apollo), JavaScript based frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Mocha), visual testing frameworks (e.g. Percy, BackstopJs, AyeSpy, Applitools), shell scripting, AWS and Docker will be beneficial
  • Comfortable presenting to internal teams as well as external Meetups, representing the QA work at News UK
  • ISTQB Certification or similar qualifications (nice to have but not essential)
