The Role

Pwrteams is currently looking to hire a talented and passionate JavaScript Engineer for our partner News UK, Technology.
 
News UK’s newspapers are some of the most powerful media brands in the English-speaking world, reaching 30 million people each week. They are different products with different values and different strengths, but all are united by a commitment to independent journalism.
 
You will be joining the Times Growth Tribe developing and enhancing the Customer Subscription Management systems on the Times and Sunday Times digital products, working in partnership with internal and external digital platform teams.
 

What you'll do

  • As a Software Engineer, you’ll be a key component of a team delivering quality software. You’ll interact with product owners and stakeholders, contribute to the technical conversations and ensure that what we build is best in class and fi t for purpose.
  • You’ll report to a Principal Engineer and will help him/her deliver on the technical strategy and tactical implementation. You and your team will be evolving News UK’s technology stack with a focus on improving page performance of web products.
  • Specifically you’ll be working to optimise our existing code, develop new automation pipelines to allow monitoring performance changes over time, and put in place recommendations for other team members to follow when developing new features.

What we're looking for

You are an experienced engineer with an eye for detail. Pragmatism and persistence will help you deliver the performance improvements we are looking for. You have a good working knowledge of the technical skills listed below, understand the principles of build tools and automated deployment and know what good code looks like. You understand the importance of testing, writing clean code and collaboration. Previous experience fine tuning and optimising for performance is a bonus.

  • Docker / Rest and GraphQL API experience
  • Jest / TDD
  • Web performance best practices / Lighthouse and WebPageTest
  • CI/CD best practices
