We are extremely excited to invite you to this Tech MeetUp we are organising together with our partner Xempus – one of the most successful InsureTech companies in Europe!
Our speakers – Markus Fuchs, Engineering Manager and Austin Moore, Senior Software Developer, come directly from Munich and have prepared some gripping presentations. The topics we will discuss:
“Best Practices for Ruby + Kafka”
Working on a monolithic Rails app that’s still maintainable? That’s great to hear! You’re one of the lucky few. For the rest of us, we’re facing one or more of the following challenges:
At Xempus, they encountered all three problems and tackled them successfully with the help of a nifty tool named Kafka.
In this talk, Austin will quickly go over what Kafka is and how it can help solve these tricky problems. Then he’ll dive into some of the concrete best practices they’ve come up with in the years working with this complex and powerful tool.
Some of the best practices are specific to Ruby, but many can be applied to using Kafka with your language of choice. Xempus itself has applications written not only in Ruby, but also Java, Kotlin and C#.
In short, if you’re experiencing similar challenges in your applications, this talk will hopefully provide you with some concrete advice.
Austin is а Senior Principal Software Engineer at Xempus. His focus at Xempus is backend development in Ruby and Kotlin using technologies like PostgreSQL and Kafka. Austin has been working as a software developer for over 20 years. In his free time, you can find him in the pool playing underwater hockey or mountain biking in the Munich area.
Markus Fuchs is currently an Engineering Manager at Xempus. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field of software development, mainly in the media broadcasting industry. He has been engaged with building platforms around broadcasting channels and has managed software teams to deliver the media asset management and broadcasting platform. He has also worked as an Organisational and Agile Coach for various organisations.
